About Us and Energy

We have several years history developing the Nova Scotia Energy Map, and seek to bring those features to you.

Presently there is approximately $300 Billion invested annually in all categories of renewable energy around the world. About $110 Billion is directly invested in Wind Energy of all shapes and sizes. The total global investment in all renewables is forecasted to reach $900 Billion by 2020. This will push us towards a sustainable electricity supply, and more importantly Total Primary Energy Supply. Some estimate that 1000-1500GW of renewables would need to be installed each year to decarbonize our global TPES by 2050, this would effectively increase by an additional 2816-4224TWh every year considering a Capacity Factor of 32%. If it costs $1 Billion/TWh for offshore wind in Europe as of 2015, we see the numbers get large quickly. My MSc. Applied Science Thesis: Atlantic Canada’s Distributed Generation Future: Renewables, Transportation, and Energy Storage assessed Nova Scotia’s fuel costs for our province’s ~75TWh TPES, and estimated it as $5.488B annually, or $109.76B over 20 years. With a mix of savings from efficiency gains in the personal and freight transportation sector and other sectors, it was estimated Nova Scotia would have a fuel budget of $3.941B annually; a savings of $1.547B annually not including interest on loans (only counting 20 years of operation). The numbers are significant, as they apply generally to the global context, imagine the scale of savings on fuel costs in every economy. World TPES consumption is ~150,000 TWh, and ~20,800 TWh for electricity and growing according to the IEA 2014 Report. We seek to improve understanding and make the decision process easier and intuitive for customers ranging from Homeowners, to Commercial Wind Farms.
